FC Arizona forward Cesar Mexia has been selected as the seventh Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2017 NPSL season.
“It’s a great privilege to receive this award,” Mexia commented. “I just want to say thank you to all my coaches and teammates for believing in me. I’m looking forward to more weeks like this.”
The striker tallied two goals and one assist in a 4-0 win over Temecula FC. He currently leads FC Arizona in both goals (four) and assists (three).
“Congrats to Cesar,” FC Arizona head coach Aidan Davison added. “Well deserved. Cesar works tirelessly making runs for other players off the ball. A quality team player who is so unselfish with his work rate.”
The Phoenix, Arizona native played collegiately at Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) and was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-American Second Team after setting a school record with 27 goals scored in 2007.
Following his successful season with PVCC, Mexia turned pro and signed with Dorados de Sinaloa. With Dorados, Mexia appeared in nine matches and scored one goal in the 2008-09 season. He joined Buhos de Hermosillo and appeared in 33 matches, scoring 12 goals from 2009-11.
The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country. It is awarded every week during the regular season.
