Second-half substitute Justin Meram scored the late winner for Columbus Crew SC in a 2-1 victory over New York City FC in front of 30,018 fans at Yankee Stadium Saturday afternoon. It was Meram’s second game-winner this season, following the home opener at MAPFRE Stadium against Toronto FC.
Designated Player Federico Higuain contributed a goal and an assist for Crew SC.
Andrew Jacobson scored NYCFC’s lone goal with the assist going to NPSL alum Patrick Mullins, who spent time with the New Orleans Jesters before being drafted by the New England Revolution.
Crew SC next plays on Sunday, September 6 when it returns to MAPFRE Stadium to take on FC Dallas in a nationally televised contest at 7:00 p.m. ET.
