The Columbus Crew (6-7-9, 27 points) extended its overall unbeaten streak to three matches (2-0-1) with a 1-1 draw against the Chicago Fire (3-5-13, 22 points) at Toyota Park on Saturday, August 2.
Mike Magee opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a penalty kick after Tyson Wahl was called for a handball in the box. Just seconds into the second half, Federico Higuain leveled the match for the Crew after Ethan Finlay’s header was collected by the Argentine, who slotted past Sean Johnson. The tally, Higuain’s team-leading eighth goal of the year, led the Black & Gold to a point on the road.
The draw snapped the Crew’s five-match losing streak at Chicago as the Crew secured its first point at Toyota Park since September 20, 2009.
The Black & Gold next return home for three consecutive matches, beginning with the third and final match of the Trillium Cup, presented by Scotts, against Toronto FC on Saturday, August 9 (7:30 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel). The match is also the Kirk Urso Memorial Night at Crew Stadium.
