The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce Duluth FC midfielder Carlyle Junior as the seventh NPSL National Player of the Week for the 2019 season.

“I’m very happy playing for Duluth FC, especially because of the way that they have welcomed me with so much joy and affection,” Junior commented. “I am thankful for the technical committee that have been doing great work every day, the quality and commitment of all of my teammates, and the crowd that is always supporting us.  It has been wonderful playing here.”

Junior had four goals and one assist in a 7-0 win against Dakota Fusion FC on June 14, 2019.

“Our head coach was very excited when he recruited Carlyle because of his impressive young career in Brazil alongside the renowned Ronaldinho, but Carlyle turned out to be so much more than the excellent footballer that Coach Joel recruited,” Duluth FC General Manager Tim Sas added. “He is a humble and gentle young man who always works hard in training and his professionalism is exemplary.  Beyond the pitch, however, Carlyle is gifted and passionate in music, Scripture, and theology, stemming from his deep personal devotion to God.  It’s a blessing to have him as a BlueGreen.”

Junior is an attacking midfielder who’s spent most of his time playing as a 10 who makes accurate passes and uses ball control to dominate the midfield.  He has experience with several clubs in Brazil, where he was born, including Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, a world-famous powerhouse of Brazil, and Centro de Futebol Zico (CFZ).  Junior’s involvement with CFZ was as a professional and his time with Flamengo was a combination of youth and senior appearances.

Junior has tallied a total of six goals this season, including five in league play and one in the U.S. Open Cup.  He has also registered two assists.

The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country.
