FC Carolina Discoveries played against Georgia Revolution FC on Thursday, June 30th and came away with an impressive 8-2 win at home.

Four minutes into the match, the Discoveries seemed to have found their counterpart’s weak spot and got into the penalty area, only to come up empty. Though the team kept pushing, Georgia’s Aigbekan Nosegbe scored the first goal during the seventh minute. The Discoveries did not let this get them down, and the team kept looking for scoring opportunities until Junior Nyemb scored the equalizer.

Georgia Revolution counterattacked and only two minutes later, veteran Scott Redding scored a goal that put his team ahead 2-1.

The celebration for the Revolution was short-lived as the Discoveries evened out the score with a goal from James Galvani. It would not be his last on the night.

The Discoveries set out to score more goals and rid themselves of the 2-2 deadlock between the two sides. Twenty-five minutes into the first half, Nyemb scored a goal that was quickly identified as offside, which motivated the Discoveries even more. After a failed attempt at goal and a corner kick that provided no results, the Discoveries were still looking for another scoring opportunity. That opportunity arrived when Tomas Brennan scored to put the Discoveries at 3-2, just seconds before the end of the first half.

The second half proved to be even better for the Carolina Discoveries as the goals continued to flow.

Joshua Choice scored a goal during the 46th minute, placing the home side at a 4-2 advantage. The team never seemed to stop looking for opportunities, and increased their lead to 5-2 during the 56th minute with another goal from Galvani.

Fabricio Barancoski made it 6-2 before Galvani completed his hat trick to make it 7-2.

As the match neared its end, Georgia Revolution goalkeeper Bedely Collins was sent off with a red card, yet another tough blow for the visitors. The Discoveries still had room for one more goal, and the 89th minute saw one from Daniel Revivo, giving the Discoveries an 8-2 win.

“Recently, we hadn’t had a good run and confidence was low,” FCD head coach Paul Sheridan commented. “We told them to go out and enjoy themselves, and that’s what they’ve done. We wanted to get the win because of the way things have gone in the last couple of weeks. The lads are full of confidence, and I’m really pleased for them.”

Sheridan was especially pleased with Galvani’s performance, one that included a trio of goals.

“We gave him a slightly more defensive role, which gave him the opportunity to do what he enjoys, which is running after players. He worked very hard, and that’s great.”

FC Carolina Discoveries will face off against the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, July 2nd.
