Football Manager 2021 (Review)

Home/Product News and Reviews/Football Manager 2021 (Review)

Hard work pays off.

That is certainly the case when it comes to the Football Manager series.  This year’s edition, Football Manager 2021, is the product of countless hours from Sports Interactive and SEGA staff from all over the world.   And it is the most authentic, realistic, and intelligent football game every made.

With all that being said, Football Manager 2020 was an amazing game, one that was trendsetting and enormously successful in its own regard.  However, Sports Interactive has a knack for making the best even better.

FM21 has infinite replay value as there are so many teams, players, and countries to explore.  Each offers its own challenge and a unique situation along the way.  FM21 allows you to have complete control over your club’s fortunes.

Improvements have been made in almost every single area, all in the name of authenticity and realism.  Improved interactions help you feel closer to your players and coaching staff as well as the media.  The latter feels even more important as your efforts with the media play out in terms of public perception.  Matchday feels more like matchday as the stadium atmosphere has never been better.  The lighting, graphics, and sounds replicate everything you would see at the big match.

Analysis plays a bigger role in FM21 as you have even more data and stats available so that you can always make the most informed decisions.  You also have a bigger role in recruitment and have more involvement with player agents.  You can even enjoy a new season review that allows you to enjoy your successes and achievements before turning your attention to the offseason and the start of a new campaign.  Celebrations now look and feel like the real thing thanks to the addition of trophy lifts and media hype.

In-game AI now reflects the intricacies and speed of the beautiful game as players act and respond more like their real-life counterparts.  They are more intelligent and benefit from even better decision-making this year.  Those behind FM21 made all the right choices, including the controversy surrounding how COVID-19 would be reflected in the game.  Like always, Sports Interactive looked to the game’s massive community and sought their input before proceeding.  You’ll find the game to be the right mix of reality and gaming.

Overall, you’ll easily find Football Manager 2021 to be the greatest football game ever made.  It shows why the game is worthy of its worldwide admiration, why it has been the subject of documentaries and books, and why FM21 is a must-have and a must-give this holiday season.  FM is always great way to spend your weekend, your holiday, or even your year.  It’s a tremendous piece of gaming and footballing art that will give you plenty of enjoyment until FM22 launches next fall.

Stay tuned for our review of Football Manager 2021 Xbox Edition, which is due to come out in December! We are thoroughly excited to see FM return to the Xbox family for the first time since 2007.
