Northampton Town have signed former Coventry City left back Marcus Hall on a one-year contract effective from August 1st.

The 34-year old Hall has played for Marcus Hall for most of his career, making his debut in 1994. He left the club to join Nottingham Forest in the 2002-03 season, before moving to Southampton. He then spent three seasons at Stoke City, but returned to Coventry in 2005.

A former captain of the England U21 side, he was released by Coventry at the end of the 2009/2010 season.

“We have generally been looking at younger players this summer, but Marcus has an awful lot of quality and when we knew he was available and we had a vacancy at left back he seemed a perfect choice,” said boss Ian Sampson.

“He is a first class professional, he is a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch and having played all of his football in the top two divisions it is clear he will be an asset to us and the younger players we have.”

He has been allocated squad number 3.
