Lamar Hunt Biography Hits Shelves in October

Home/U.S. Soccer Leagues/MLS/Lamar Hunt Biography Hits Shelves in October

Michael MacCambridge’s authorized biography of American sports legend Lamar Hunt hits bookstore shelves this week, and the author will be in Dallas signing copies of his work at Barnes and Noble, 7700 West NW Hwy. The book signing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4.

Best known for his work on the critically-acclaimed America’s Game:  The Epic Story of How Pro Football Captured a Nation, MacCambridge spent more than 25 hours interviewing Lamar Hunt prior to his death in December 2006. His latest work, Lamar Hunt:  A Life in Sports, chronicles the legacy of one of America’s greatest sportsmen. MacCambridge examines Hunt’s life and career, which forever changed the landscape of professional sports.

“We are very excited about the release of Lamar Hunt: A Life in Sports and we hope that fans of all sports will enjoy reading about the life and legacy of my father in this outstanding work by Michael MacCambridge,” said Hunt’s son and Hunt Sports Group Chairman Clark Hunt. “Michael is well-respected as both an author and a sports historian, and with exhaustive research, unprecedented access and poignant eloquence, he has crafted the definitive biography of my father’s life.”

In total, Hunt was inducted into 11 different halls of fame thanks in large part to his involvement in six different professional sports leagues. Although he founded the American Football League, named the Super Bowl and served as a driving force in the landmark AFL-NFL merger, the ever-modest Hunt eschewed credit for his many accomplishments, content to remain a fan at heart throughout his life. MacCambridge’s work thoroughly documents the life of one of America’s great sports pioneers and sheds new light on Hunt’s tremendous legacy.

MacCambridge’s in-depth biography traces the life of Hunt, who appropriately earned the nickname “Games” as a youth. Hunt spent his adult life immersed in the American sports scene. In addition to founding the AFL, Hunt helped usher in the open era of professional tennis (through his World Championship Tennis tour), was a central figure in popularizing the sport of soccer in the United States (owning franchises in both the North American Soccer League and Major League Soccer), and was a founding co-owner of the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. Hunt Sports Group, chaired by Lamar’s son Clark, continues to own and operate the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, as well as Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas and Columbus Crew. The family has also maintained its original ownership stake in the NBA’s Chicago Bulls.

The book can be purchased at the FC Dallas Team Shop located on the North side of the stadium. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. On game days, the store opens at 2 p.m. and closes following the game. The book retails for $27.99, however FC Dallas season ticket holders will receive a 15 percent discount.

Customers outside the Dallas, TX area can order the book on Amazon, starting at $18.47 for the print edition or $9.99 for the Kindle edition.
