More Good News for Soccer at UMU

Men’s Soccer Defeats Washington and Jefferson

Two first-half goals were plenty as Mount Union defeated Washington and Jefferson in Washington, Pa 2-0 Monday night.

Senior Stephen Dages (St. Vincent St. Mary/Uniontown) scored the only two goals of the game in the 25th and 45th minutes for the Purple Raiders. The first goal was assisted by sophomore Jon Schroeder (Normandy/Parma) while the second goal was assisted by senior Todd Cooper(Kenston/Chagrin Falls).

Sophomore Zach Hlas (Medina/Medina) earned his first career shutout playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Raiders facing four shots and not allowing a single goal.

Mount Union will have a quick turnaround as they head to Wooster tomorrow night to play the Fighting Scots at 5 p.m.

O’Donnell Earns Conference Honors

Mount Union sophomore Maggie O’Donnell (Avon Avon) was named the women’s soccer Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week (9/5).

O’Donnell scored three goals and added an assist on the weekend to lead the Purple Raiders to a 2-0 weekend at the Hiram Classic. Over the weekend, the Raiders defeated Thiel (0-2) by a score of 8-0 and Franciscan (0-2) with a score of 4-1.

Through two games, O’Donnell has three goals, one assist and seven points overall.

Mount Union (2-0) is in action again Wednesday, September 6 on the road at Mount St. Joseph at 7 p.m.
