Mount Union’s women’s soccer team defeated Ohio Northern 3-1 to open Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.

With the victory the Purple Raiders improve to 8-2-1, 1-0 in the OAC, while Ohio Northern falls to 4-6-1, 0-1 in OAC action.

The Polar Bears would strike first as Sandy Plunkett scored off a blocked shot to give them the 1-0 in the 35th minute.

Allison Fouss would tie the game 1-1 in the 72nd minute on an angled shot. Gina Wall would find Shannon Evans in the 75th minute. Wall would then find Kelsey Malenic in the 76th minute to give Mount Union the 3-1 victory.

The Raiders defense led by goalkeeper Maria Favorite had four saves on the day and improved her record to 6-2-1 with the victory.

The Purples Raiders return to the field when they travel to Marietta and face-off on at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
