“It saddened me to hear that one of the longest standing clubs in the PDL is closing its doors,” Aaron Tredway said after hearing the terrible news. Tredway, now the Executive Director of the Cleveland City Stars (USL-1), was one of many to be influenced by Surge President David Irby. “Irby has been a great influence on American soccer,” Tredway continued as he praised his former boss. “I would like to thank Dave for perservering with the club.” Irby was often recognized for his leadership, community involvement, and most importantly his vision.
Tredway, Martin Rennie, and Mark Geissbauer all clearly benefited from the opportunities and experience provided by the Cascade Surge and its president. This was quite a surprise as three to four groups were seriously considering a purchase of the club. One had even emerged to enter the due diligence phase with league officials. Whatever the case this is a major blow for soccer in the Northwest, which will lead to fewer opportunities for young players.
