Notre Dame College took down Mount St. Mary’s University 71-5, at home, on Saturday afternoon as they kicked off their first game of the season and their first contest as a part of the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA). Notre Dame picked up right where they left off in 2016 when they put together an 8-3 record and became the national runner-up. The Emirates Airline Summer Series concluded with USA Eagle’s defeat to the Georgia Lelos at Kennesaw’s Stadium. The final score totaled 21-17, making it a close match but without enough time for the Eagles to overcome Georgia. Team USA spent the first half of the game utilizing their field kicks back and forth between themselves and Georgia, trying to gain an advantage. If Georgia got too close to USA, they would kick the ball the other way to regain field coverage.
Following Team USA’s test match against Ireland, the men now rally together to face off Georgia in their upcoming game located at Kennesaw State University’s Fifth and Third Bank Stadium. Facing the first of two top-15 rugby opponents in a week, the US Eagles Rugby side fell to the fourth-ranked team in the world, Ireland, allowing nine tries and losing by a scoreline of, 55-19.
