Former Blackpool and Accrington Stanley winger Rory Prendergast will be providing our visitors weekly news from the home of the beautiful game.  “In His Own Words” will follow Rory as he begins a new journey to join the ranks of professional soccer players here in the U.S. It will literally be in his own words as the name suggests. Prendergast has drawn interest from numerous USL clubs and even a few MLS teams.  There is no doubt that he has the skills to

Tightest Playoff Chase in MLS History

In the final week of the MLS season, seven teams will contend for three playoff berths.  Only three clubs have been eliminated from the playoffs (New York, San Jose, Kansas City), while five have clinched passage to the playoffs (Columbus, Houston, Los Angeles, Chivas USA, Seattle).  There are several scenarios for the remaining clubs and it is complicated to say the least. All of this is discussed in detail in the 2009 Rules of Competition.

TOA is not MLS-2

Several outlets are reporting that TOA members have been meeting with MLS executives regarding a Second Division for MLS.  Our source reports that another level for MLS is not happening any time soon. Here is a comment from that source close to the situation:  “Major League Soccer has had conversations with TOA clubs (including the Vancouver Whitecaps) but no arrangement is on the table.”

He is known for his strong work

We Did It!

The U.S. has qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup thanks to a 3-2 victory over Honduras on Saturday.  The coming months will be full of exciting moments and lots of decisions for Bob Bradley.  It will be interesting to see who is named to the final World Cup roster.  Bradley has looked at a lot of players since his hiring and there will be plenty of talent to go around.  It was a busy night as we added pieces to the World

Hejduk Named to U.S. Roster

Congratulations to Frankie Hejduk of the Columbus Crew, who was named to the U.S. roster for the qualifiers against Honduras and Costa Rica.  Hejduk is the heart and soul of the Crew and can provide a similar presence for the National Team.  Frankie will provide veteran experience to a squad that is a few small steps from qualification for the 2010 World Cup.

Prendergast to MLS, USL?

Rumors are circulating around former Blackpool star Rory Prendergast.  Several USL clubs have expressed interest in the left-winger who also spent time with Accrington Stanley, Rochdale, Farsley Celtic, and Halifax Town.  At least one of our sources suggest that one MLS club is willing to take a chance on the player as well. Prendergast is a technically gifted player that could make an impact here in America.  Scouting reports suggest that Rory possesses good pace, superior fitness, and is able to

The team announced that midfielder Leighton O’Brien had returned home to Tacoma, Washington for personal reasons. The 33-year-old veteran was released from the club. The team also announced that David Testo and Stephen deRoux were selected to the USL-1 All League Second Team. Head Coach Marc Dos Santos will serve a one-game suspension on Thursday. He was ejected from the last match against Charleston.

Recoba to MLS?

Sources in Europe and the U.S. report that several MLS clubs have expressed an interest in signing Alvaro Recoba.  The striker has spent time with Panionios, Torino, and Venezia. His best years were with Internazionale of Serie A. Blackburn and Perth Glory (A-League) had previously expressed interest in Recoba, a member of the Uruguay national team that participated in the 2002 World Cup.  Neither club was able to come to terms with the former Inter Milan star, who would
