Women’s College Soccer: Malenic Ties Record in Win

Home/College Soccer/University of Mount Union Women's Soccer/Women’s College Soccer: Malenic Ties Record in Win

Kelsey Malenic  tied a Mount Union record with four goals in a 6-0 Ohio Athletic Conference win at Muskingum Tuesday in New Concord.

Malenic tied the mark set by Shannon Haddox against Tiffin on Sept. 7, 1991.

Nicole Moldovan  had the other two scores as Mount Union moved its record to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.

Moldovan scored the game’s first goal in the 10th minute as she headed a ball from Gina Wall.

Malenic then scored two goals in a seven minute span late in the half to give Mount Union a 3-0 lead.  The first one came as Allison Fouss sent a pass inside the box which Malenic put in the upper 90 and her second one came as she drove in off a crossed ball by junior Essie McBride.

In the 53rd minute, Malenic scored again off a pass from Bridget Mulhall to extend the lead to 4-0.

Just over 10 minutes later, Moldovan notched her second goal of the game to make it 5-0 before Malenic finished scoring and her record-tying night as Fouss fed her again in the 65th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Maria Favorite  made three saves to record her sixth shutout of the season.

Mount Union had a 32-9 shot advantage over Muskingum (9-5-1, 2-4 OAC).

The Raiders return home to take on Wilmington Saturday at 7 pm at Mount Union Stadium.
