The Mount Union women’s soccer team fell to Fredonia (N.Y.) 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders (2-2) began the half with shots on goal by multiple players, all of which were stopped by Fredonia (3-1) goalkeeper Kendall Owczarzak. Fredonia’s Maria Gordon scored a goal in the 20th minute of the game, making the score 1-0. Mount Union went into the half trailing by one.

The second half was much of the same for the Raiders. Shots on goal came from freshman Maggie O’Donnell (Avon/Avon), sophomore Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia), junior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) and senior Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary), though none were able to find the back of the net. Sophomore Claudia Boryka (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview) recorded two saves on the half for a total of four on the day.

After 90 minutes of play, the final score was 1-0 in Fredonia’s favor.

The Purple Raiders play again on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. against Penn State-Behrend at Mount Union Stadium.
