Leicester City Caps Historic Season With Its First-Ever English Premier League Title
Leicester City to take on Paris Saint-Germain as part of International Champions Cup at StubHub Center on July 30
Today, International Champions Cup participant Leicester City has won the English Premier League Championship. Leicester City is the second consecutive English Premier League champion to play in the International Champions Cup. Last year, Chelsea F.C. was one of the headliners of the summer tournament hosted by Relevent Sports, a division of RSE Ventures – a multi-national sports and entertainment venture firm with a focus on new technologies. Leicester City joins French Ligue 1 winners Paris Saint-Germain as 2016 domestic league winners with the two set to face off at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on Saturday, July 30 at 8:30 PM PT.
As the biggest story in sports, Leicester City arrives at the top of English football after promotion to the English Premier League in the 2014-15 season. After fighting for survival during their return to England’s top table, Leicester City led the majority of the 2015-2016 season and today, won the title. International Champions Cup fans have the opportunity to see Leicester City continue the historic run and take on some of the best teams in the world during this summer’s tournament. In addition to Leicester City’s match with Paris Saint-Germain, the EPL champions will take on Celtic FC in Glasgow, Scotland on July 23 and global powerhouse FC Barcelona in Stockholm, Sweden on August 3.
This is the second consecutive year the StubHub has hosted an ICC match. In 2015, the LA Galaxy and Club America met to open the tournament in front of a sold out crowd.

Leicester City has burst onto the scene and become one of the greatest footballing stories in recent times. Founded in 1884, the Foxes have amassed three League Cup titles and one Charity Shield. They entered the Premier League for the 2014-2015 campaign following a 10-year absence from the top division. After struggling to survive their first year back, Leicester has taken the crown in the English Premier League, led by midfielder Riyad Mahrez as well as striker Jamie Vardy and his record-breaking stretch of 11 consecutive games with a goal. The 2016 International Champions Cup will run from July 23 – August 13 and play matches across the United States and throughout the world. Each team will play three contests and the club with the most points at the end of the tournament will be crowned champion. Each win in regulation will result in three points and a tie will go straight to a shootout; the winning team in a shootout will receive two points and the losing team will receive one.
In total, 10 teams from around the globe, including England (Liverpool, Chelsea F.C. Leicester City), Italy (AC Milan, F.C. Internazionale), France (Paris Saint-Germain F.C.), Spain (Barcelona, Real Madrid), Germany (FC Bayern Munich) and Scotland (Celtic F.C.) will compete in the 2016 International Champions Cup. This year’s International Champions Cup features the most storied and successful clubs in the world, including many of the world’s top players. The ten participating teams have won a total of 190 domestic league titles, 246 domestic cup titles and 36 UEFA Champions League titles. The teams feature 18 of the 2015-2016 FIFA Ballon d’Or nominees, as well as 50 of the top 100 players in the world as chosen yearly by renowned English magazine FourFourTwo.
In 2016, the International Champions Cup will once again be played across the globe, including standalone tournaments in both China and Australia. Clubs participating in the two overseas showcases include Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Juventus F.C., Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Melbourne Victory F.C, providing even more fans from around the world the opportunity to see their favorite clubs live.
