Bangor and Dunloy have become familiar opponents in recent weeks with the two sides facing off three times in the space of a month.
The Seasiders made it three wins in all three games on Saturday as they dumped the holders out of the McReynolds Cup at the first round.
Michael Halliday broke the deadlock early in the second half before Ben Roy secured a comfortable passage for Hugh Sinclair’s side who will now face either Cookstown RBL or Wakehurst in the next round at the Bangor Fuels Arena.
Seven changes to Bangor’s starting line-up led to a disjointed opening spell but it was the Seasiders who looked most threatening in attack.
Debutant Scott McArthur crossed for Ryan Arthur in the 11th minute but the defender headed wide. Ben Roy then sent a Matthew Johnston cross wide of the target moments before Michael Halliday found the side netting from a tight angle.
Bangor continued to enjoy the majority of possession but could not find a way through with Arthur again heading off target in the 23rd minute.
Dunloy rarely broke into Bangor territory in the first half but when Karl Fitzpatrick latched onto a Jack Magee through ball, Darren Gibbons comfortably gathered the striker’s effort.
The stalemate was broken four minutes after the half time interval when the lively Scott McArthur raced onto a Ryan Arthur pass. Bangor’s new signing floated a teasing cross over the head of the Dunloy goalkeeper leaving Michael Halliday with probably the easiest tap-in of his career.
Bangor’s veteran forward tested Conor McGilligan with a header in the 58th minute but the stopper was equal to his effort.
McGilligan was stretched further moments later as he flew to his right to push away a stinging drive from Ben Roy but the same man could not be stopped after 66 minutes, this time leaving McGilligan stranded as he found the bottom corner form the edge of the Dunloy penalty area.
Substitute Ethan Boylan directed his header wide of the target from a Brett Widdowson cross but the closest Bangor came to extending their lead was when McArthur sent a curling effort towards the top corner only for McGilligan to claw the ball behind for a corner.
The resultant corner was cleared as far as Niall Atkinson and his low drive from just outside the penalty area cannoned clear off the foot of the post.
Dunloy’s misery was compounded in the 89th minute when the combative Shane Dooey picked up his second yellow card of the afternoon for a late tackle.
