Hartley Claims Golden Glove Award

Editor August 6, 2014

The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce Chattanooga FC goalkeeper Gregory Hartley as the recipient of the NPSL Golden Glove award. The award, given to the league’s top goalkeeper, was voted on by NPSL teams throughout the country.

Hartley is in his third year with the club, and has been an integral part of the team as the starting keeper for all three seasons. In 19 games this season, Hartley allowed only 19 goals, and in NPSL league play he only allowed 13 goals in 18 games, averaging 0.7 goals allowed per game.

Hartley made many game-saving stops this season and was a big reason for the team’s postseason success. Memorable moments include two out of three penalty kicks he saved — once in stoppage time against NASL side Atlanta Silverbacks in U.S. Open Cup play, the other in the Southeast Conference Championship during a crucial first half moment. He also logged eight shutouts this year.

“It’s great that people recognize your talents and it just been an amazing week,” Hartley remarked. “To win this award since there is only one goalkeeper in the NPSL that can win it is fantastic. It feels great to know that people from all around the country are out there watching you play.”

The Manchester, England native has spent time with the Manchester City Academy, Lindsey Wilson College, Belhaven University, and Georgia Gwinnett College. Hartley ended his collegiate soccer career in the fall of 2012 after earning a laundry list of awards including NAIA All-American, SSAC Defensive Player of the Year, SSAC All-Conference Team, NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week, and SSAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
