AFC Cleveland goalkeeper Alex Ivanov has been named the 13th Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2015 NPSL season.
Ivanov faced ten shots and tallied five saves in Cleveland’s 2-0 win over the Indiana Fire. Three of the saves were clear goal-denying opportunities, preserving a clean sheet for Ivanov and the Royals.
The Strongsville, Ohio native finished his collegiate career as one of the top goalkeepers in Ohio State University men’s soccer history.
Ivanov is third on the Buckeyes’ all-time career saves list with 239 and fifth in career shutouts with 15. He also was the recipient of the 2014 CLASS Award, a recognition given to the most outstanding student-athlete in Division I men’s soccer. This is in addition to being a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.
