The Mount Union women’s soccer team scored six goals in a shutout win over Marietta Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Alexis Crawford (Canton/Glen Oak) recorded four saves to go along with her first shutout of her career.
Mount Union (5-6, 1-1) scored its first goal of the contest in the 20th minute when sophomore Katie Goedecke scored on a follow up a shot from senior Kelsey Malenic to give the Purple Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The Raiders went on to score two more goals in the next six minutes with Malenic scoring off of a cross from Goedecke in the 23rd minute and junior Carolyn Balzano scoring her first goal of the season in the 26th minute off of through ball from freshman Mallory Wahl to put Mount Union up 3-0.
Goedecke added her second goal of the night in the 59th minute as she settled a ball off of a cross from freshman Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) and put it into the lower corner of the goal to extend the Mount Union lead to 4-0.
The Raiders struck again just five minutes later as Malenic scored her second goal of the match as she took the ball from a Marietta defender and placed it into the lower right corner to put Mount Union on top 5-0.
The Raiders tacked on one more in the 74th minute as Lanese weaved through defenders and found the back of the net to give Mount Union a 6-0 lead.
Mount Union next hosts OAC opponent Ohio Northern on Saturday, October 10 at 7 pm.
