Being a member of the British Transport Police (BTP) is not an easy job.  They have to deal with a lot of dangerous situations (and people) and do so with great courage and professionalism.

Tracking the Hooligans: The History of Football Violence on the UK Rail Network by Michael Layton and Alan Pacey chronicles the important work of the BTP over the decades.  It comes from the perspective of Layton and Pacey, retired officers from the BTP who climbed through the ranks of the police organization.

Dealing with football supporters was a big part of their careers and often represented the most difficult cases.  Often supporters became part of the hooligan experience and caused serious problems.  The result was property damage, injuries, and even deaths.  Without the good work of the BTP, things would have been much, much worse.

This book is a collection of stories.  Some are serious and tell of great bravery, while others have a touch of humor and are lighthearted.  It tells of a different time in English football, a dark time for the beautiful game.

Overall this is an excellent text, one that would be appreciated by football supporters, police officers, and security officials alike.  Amberley has done a great job putting together another great book.  No wonder many regard them as a top destination for the best football titles.
