De Ycaza Named Mitre National Player of the Week

Matthew Miller July 2, 2016

Tobacco Road FC midfielder Evan De Ycaza has been selected as the 13th Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2016 NPSL season.

The Furman University standout scored a hat trick in a 4-1 win over FC Carolina Discoveries.  He has a total of four goals and two assists for the season.

“Evan has been a tremendous addition to Tobacco Road FC during our inaugural season in the NPSL,” Tobacco Road FC founding partner Seth Kaplan commented.  “From early on, Evan led by example through his dedication to the game and his commitment to his teammates.  As a young club, you hope for players like Evan – guys with tremendous ability who strive to improve each and every time they step on to the pitch.  We are thrilled to have had the chance to coach Evan, and I am excited to watch as his career continues to grow.”

Originally from Cary, North Carolina, De Ycaza enjoyed a successful youth career while playing for CASL’s Chelsea Academy.  De Ycaza has been a solid contributor for Furman during his three years there, netting six goals and four assists.  During his junior season, De Ycaza was named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament team in 2015.

“I feel very fortunate to be a part of Tobacco Road FC’s inaugural NPSL season,” De Ycaza added.  “The team is in great form at the moment and every player has bought into what we are trying to achieve.  The technical staff and owners have created a fantastic culture here in Durham, North Carolina and we are all looking forward to continued success.  A big thanks to the NPSL and everyone involved in Tobacco Road FC.”

The Mitre National Player of the Week is announced every Friday during the regular season.  The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country.
