The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that Sioux Falls Thunder FC (Sioux Falls, SD) has joined the league as an expansion team.  The club will compete in the Midwest Region’s North Conference.

“The NPSL has grown into many new markets in 2016,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “We are so very excited to see the NPSL brand taking hold in South Dakota.  Sioux Falls Thunder FC is proving to be yet another incredible addition to the North Conference.”

Amadu Myers will lead the club as general manager.

Myers was born in Liberia, but his my family soon moved to Ivory Coast. Growing up in a rough environment in Ivory Coast, all he did was play soccer because that was the only thing that kept him going. He moved to the U.S in December of 2004 with his grandparents and joined the Great Plains Soccer Club. In 2007 he went on to play soccer for Lincoln High School and won the state championship in 2008.

Myers was a regular at Sioux Falls Spitfire matches and going to those games on the weekend provided him with some of his greatest memories.  In 2015 he had the opportunity to play for FC Fargo and helped lead the team to the American Premier League (APL) Championship.   Myers has personally been working on bringing a soccer team to Sioux Falls for the past few years and now he has the opportunity to bring this a high level of soccer to his beloved community.

“We joined the APL to compete in our Northern States area, but we are happy that the APL Board of Directors decided to merge with the NPSL,” Myers added. “We voted in favor of this merger because we believe our club can compete in the national structure.”

Home matches will be played at O’Gorman HS in Sioux Falls.  The facility has all the necessary amenities, including locker rooms and restrooms, to provide a great atmosphere on gameday.

“Sioux Falls has lots of good soccer players and by joining the NPSL in the North Conference our fans get to see our players face other good teams in our region,” Myers concluded. “To continue to build on our relationship with the fans while competing for a playoff spot and to grow our rivalries with the other North Conference teams.”
