Costa Rica moved a step closer to qualifying for the quarter finals with a 1-0 victory over Jamaica. In an evenly contested first half, both teams had chances to take the lead but a lack of composure in front of goal cost them both. The turning point came in the 34 minute when Jamaica’s Rudolph Austin was send off for an apparent elbow, which seemed a very harsh decision.
With Jamaica down to 10 men, Costa Rica started to dominate possession and chances and in the 63rd minute they took the lead thanks to good work from Herrera who crossed for Borges to stab home. Jamaica struggled to get back into the game, and could not support the good work Cummings was doing up front, while Costa Rica had chances to kill the game off.
