Bangor FC Routs Donegal Celtic

Home/Northern Ireland/Bangor FC Routs Donegal Celtic

Bangor made light work of Donegal Celtic last weekend, claiming all three points in emphatic fashion.

There proved to be little contest between the two sides as Bangor rattled in ten goals, including a hat trick apiece for Jack Wasson and Michael Halliday.

Having been five goals to the good at half time, Bangor then added four more in six second half minutes as they made their superiority count.  The visitors did grab a consolation but it was Bangor who had the final say as Ethan Boylan made sure his side finished with double figures.

The opening minute of the game told a different story though as Anthony Philpott found himself in plenty of space in the Bangor penalty area, wastefully firing wide of Paul Cairnduff’s goal when well placed.

Mark Cooling set Bangor on a counter attack in the 12th minute, combining with Ben Roy to tee up Jack Wasson.  The Bangor midfielder kept his composure to lift the ball over John Tierney to give his side the lead.

Wasson doubled Bangor’s advantage and his own tally after 22 minutes, rifling an 18-yard drive past Tierney following a marauding run forward by Gareth Beattie.

Chris Getty went close for Bangor but it was Cooling who added the third moments later when his 25-yard free kick flew past the helpless Tierney after Wasson had been bundled to the ground in unceremonious fashion.

Donegal Celtic heads dropped and Bangor made them pay when Michael Halliday made the most of the space in the six-yard box as he glanced in a Mark Cooling corner at the near post.

Then on the stroke of half time, Ben Arthurs got in on the act, firing low underneath Tierney having brushed past a number of challenges.

Jack Wasson sealed his hat trick in the 54th minute, finding the bottom corner from just outside the penalty area.

Two minutes later and it was two for Halliday as the veteran forward collected Ben Arthurs’ pass and gave Tierney no chance from close range.

Adam Calvert replaced Chris Getty and he was straight into the thick of the action crossing from the left where Michael Halliday diverted the cross into the back of the net for his third of the day – his second hat-trick in as many games.

Calvert and Halliday combined again moments later, but this time it was Ben Roy who benefited as he finished the move as Bangor ruthlessly tore the visitors apart.

A poor clearance from Paul Cairnduff gifted Sean O’Halloran a consolation goal for the visitors in the 79th minute but Bangor responded with another goal three minutes later when substitute Ethan Boylan flicked Cooling’s corner past Tierney.

Indeed Boylan could have had a hat trick of his own, but his shot bounced clear off the post a minute later before Tierney denied the Bangor striker as he raced through on goal in another surge forward.

The last chance of the match fell to Jack Mallin, but he was unable to keep his lofted effort on target, as Bangor had to settle for ten goals.
