Tottenham, Liverpool Finish with Scoreless Draw in Baltimore Friendly

Home/English Football/Tottenham, Liverpool Finish with Scoreless Draw in Baltimore Friendly

Today’s match between EPL squads Tottenham and Liverpool was just a preseason friendly. But you couldn’t tell from the massive outpouring of fan support that was on display.

The 42,723 fans that showed up at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium were raucous and loud from start to finish. The teams played to a very entertaining 0-0 draw and did not disappoint those that traveled far to see their favorite squads play.

Massively outnumbered by the Liverpool faithful, the Spurs supporters had plenty to cheer for.

Superstar Gareth Bale was active and made his presence known in the first half. In the 40th minute Bale sent a cross into the box that just missed going into the back of the net. Both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Aaron Lennon had chances at the ball, but narrowly missed out on the winning score.

Earlier in the match though Bale suffered a late tackle by Liverpool’s Charlie Adam and was kept off the pitch for a few minutes. After coming off at the half Bale’s future status remains in question.

This is just another potential setback in what has already been a rough month in North London.

After finishing in 4th place, Tottenham was set to take a spot in the Champions League and challenge for a European championship. But, against all odds, crosstown rivals Chelsea miraculously stunned Bayern Munich and sent Spurs down to the Europa League.

For new manager, Chelsea’s former boss, Andre Villas-Boas it is a period of transition. Sometimes that can mean transfers to and from a squad.

The biggest star for Spurs last season was Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder has been linked heavily with La Liga champions Real Madrid. Modric has shown interest in leaving, but was not granted that wish by management. This has caused a large amount of tension with the team as Modric did not travel to the United States for the preseason tour.

However the Modric and Bale situations end up, today’s result was promising for Tottenham fans. The back four impressed and 19-year-old Harry Kane was constantly threatening up front.

The Premier League season gets under way in just under a month. Tottenham looks to improve on last season’s result, starting their campaign against Newcastle on August 18th.
