Neymar (Review)

Brazilian sensation Neymar is quite the enigma.

Despite being the victim of an injury in his own country’s World Cup, Neymar has many more years to live up to his potential for club and country.  Arguably the best in the world, we may be making the argument that he was the best ever ten years from now.   The comparisons to the great Pelé  may finally come true.

Luca Caioli’s Neymar effectively unwraps the backstory that has made Neymar who he is today, the captain of the Brazilian National Team and one of the brightest stars in La Liga.  I have to say I was quite excited to hear that he would be lined up with Lionel Messi, which is a match made in football heaven.

Caioli is one of the best football biographers, having already tackled the stories behind the aforementioned Messi and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.  He handles every step of a player’s life and how those events affected their path to footballing stardom.

Neymar’s story is a worldly one, starting off in one soccer hotspot (Brazil) and ending in another (Barcelona).  He has gone from being a single country’s treasure to being a global superstar every weekend.  It was quite an impressive  journey and Caioli did a fantastic job covering that in just 242 pages.

The book is very readable and contains lots of one of a kind interviews.  Each provides insights into Neymar’s career that you won’t and can’t find anywhere else.

It is a book that is well done in every regard.
