The University of Akron women’s soccer team fell short in the exhibition match at Duquesne University on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-1.
Junior Lani Smith, a transfer from South Carolina, provided the lone goal for the Akron offense in Friday’s match. A native of Solon, Ohio, Smith is one of five newcomers to UA, and owns two career collegiate goals from her time at USC.
Smith’s goal was assisted by fellow newcomer Sarah Sivic. Sivic is a native of Broadview Heights, Ohio and was a four-year letterwinner for Broadview Heights-Brecksville High School.
Head coach Vernon Croft’s squad has six days until the regular season opener in West Lafayette, Ind., against the Purdue Boilermakers for the Boilermaker Cup, which is set to take place on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Akron women’s soccer will have eight home matches in the 2013 season, beginning with Boston University on Sept. 8 at noon in FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field.
Women’s soccer season tickets are just $40 for general admission, and are available for a $20 add-on for men’s soccer season ticketholders. Also, discounted tickets are available for faculty and staff at $32 and alumni at $25. Family plan add-ons can be made for $40.
