Revival for Kljestan in Tampa Bay

A new team, a new league, a load of new players.  Not exactly the easiest situation, but Gordon Kljestan has made the most of his opportunity with FC Tampa Bay. Photo Credit: Matt May Kljestan currently is second on the team with 2 goals. He has appeared in 8 games (6 starts) and logged 490 minutes.  He is one of the reasons for Tampa’s early success in the USSF Division II Pro League.  FC Tampa Bay now sits at second place in the USL

Howard Leads USMNT to Draw with England

The 1-1 draw between U.S. and England represented the biggest result in U.S. soccer history. As one ESPN commentator remarked, “No one won, but everyone will remember what happened in Rustenberg.” The opening match for both the U.S. and England was a suspenseful one that could have gone either way. There were a lot of opportunities for both sides, but each squad did enough to keep the other from capitalizing on those opportunities. Simply put, it was an epic battle between

ESPN Equals First-Class

ESPN is truly a first-class organization from top to bottom. Their involvement with the 2010 World Cup has already become a thing of legends and a game hasn’t been played yet. Many people (even those who are not usually soccer fans) have been impressed by ESPN’s commericals and promotions detailing their World Cuo coverage. They have invested millions and millions of dollars into this venture.  The rights for the 2010 and 2014 World Cups were $100 million alone, not including promotion and

Busy, Busy, Busy

This is perhaps the busiest time we have ever experienced. We are less than a week away from the start of the historic 2010 World Cup. We are in the midst of an exciting and successful outdoor season for MLS, USSF D-II, USL-2, and PDL. We are organizing a series of major events including our area’s largest World Cup party, a national soccer combine, and our continued coverage of the Ohio Vortex offseason. Our inbox is flooded with hundreds of e-mails each and every

Surprise!

It has taken me a while to take in the roster decisions by Bob Bradley.  He deserves our utmost respect and support.  Yet I want to call attention to a few choices that may cause difficulty for Bradley in South Africa. Robbie Findley is not World Cup material.  He has 1 goal and 2 assists for Real Salt Lake this season.  The strikers have to be the most worrisome group for the USMNT.  I do think Edson Buddle is going to do great things

Soccertown USA

For one day Cleveland, Ohio will be the center of the soccer universe. Two of the world’s top women’s soccer nations meet tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET at Cleveland Browns Stadium in a match televised live on ESPN2. The clash between the USA and Germany marks the first meeting in the United States between the two perennial powers since the Germans took down the USA in the semifinal of the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The match will be the

Words from our World Cup Hopefuls

The Chivas USA locker room was eerily quiet after a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Columbus Crew. There wasn’t any talking and players seemed to stay to themselves.  The most frustrating part of the defeat was the fact that the Goats dominated the Crew for most of the match.  Obviously Schelotto won the game for Columbus,  but there were several stars on the night. Bornstein looks forward to USMNT training camp. Sacha Kljestan shined the brightest of the four vying for the 23 man

The Chosen Ones

The Crew's Rogers and Marshall were solid picks for Bob Bradley's preliminary World Cup roster. Today was a big day for the stars of American soccer. National Team Head Coach Bob Bradley announced the 30 players that would be headed to training camp. Only 23 of these players are guaranteed a trip to South Africa. Here is our take on the selections: The Best Combo: Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle, L.A. Galaxy.  It is doubtful that Buddle will see significant minutes if he makes it through

Giuseppe Rossi on the Cover of ESPN The Magazine

Rossi could have been the star of the USMNT. “Much to the disappointment of U.S. fans, New Jersey-born soccer stud Giuseppe Rossi will be wearing the Italian colors this summer in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Looking at Rossi’s childhood and achievements so far, ESPN The Magazine writer Jeff Bradley tells the story of how the soccer phenom became a member of the Azzurri in “The One Who Got Away” in the new issue on newsstands today.”
