No Joseph, But Still a Victory

The Revolution managed to defeat United 2-0 even without their star player, Shalrie Joseph. The New Revolution were able to pull away with a 2-0 win over D.C. United thanks to brilliant play by Kenny Mansally. We should have called it an award-winning performance as Mansally was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2010 MLS season. The Revs are just one of those teams that always find a way to win.  Their consistency has become their

Rapids Among the Most Improved

Many people have been impressed with the shakeup in Kansas City, but the Colorado Rapids have made some unbelievable moves in the past few weeks.  The trade for Marvell Wynne greatly improved the Colorado backline. The recent signing of Claudio Lopez showed that they are determined to reach the playoffs this year.  Lopez is a proven commodity, a former DP for Kansas City, and a veteran who can share his knowledge of the game.  He will score goals and provide spark to the Colorado

Pure Futbol Video

This year’s newest soccer game is a Ubisoft product. It offers something different than FIFA or Pro Evo.  It is more of an arcade style; it focuses on the intensity and physcial nature of the beautiful game. This is could be one of the best soccer games ever if the gameplay is as good as the visuals. Here are some key features: In the Heart of the Action – Experience what the players do, through tight camera angles and stunning audio/visual treatments that intensify key moments

Where is Hunter Gilstrap Now?

Gilstrap finds a home with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of USL-2. We last saw Hunter Gilstrap in goal for the Cleveland City Stars at Middlefield Cheese Stadium in Bedford, Ohio.  Little did we know that this would be the last time we would see the City Stars on the field and in operation.  The franchise folded in December of 2009 after failing to find a buyer.  It wasn’t due to a lack of effort as Dr. Aaron Tredway did his best to

MLS Makes Improvements to the Designated Player Rule

Stars like Schelotto have helped raise the quality of play in MLS. The recent addition of a second Designated Player slot and the ability to even purchase a third changes the way the soccer world views MLS.  The league and its member clubs now have an opportunity to get more proven talent on the field if they want to.  “We want to design a system so that each team has an opportunity to be successful,” said Todd Durbin, MLS EVP of Player Relations

Dayton, Ohio is a Hotbed for Soccer

Duran brings instant credibility to the UD soccer program. First, it was the Dayton Dutch Lions and the creation of a first-class organization at the PDL level. Sources tell us that the Dutch Lions are contemplating a move to USL-2 or a refurbished USL-1 in 2011. Second, news of quite a recruiting coup came as the University of Dayton landed one of the nation’s best players. Central midfielder Marlon Duran was ranked #6 in the country overall and was the captain of

MLS Week 1 Reflections

Great start to the season! Here are our thoughts on Week 1 in Major League Soccer: Philadelphia at Seattle: Too early to tell if there will be a sophomore slump for the Sounders. They embarrassed the expansion Union 2-0 in front of 36,000+ fans.  Great market + great players + great expectations=Seattle Sounders FC. Philly fans are in for a long, long season.  The Union had problems on both sides of the ball.  Not sure where goals will come from and not sure who
