On May 9, 2001 the biggest tragedy in African football happened at the historic Accra Sports Stadium in a league match between rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko. The disaster claimed 127 lives officially. I personally was a witness on that day watching events from the VIP stands with my father. The disaster started when Hearts of Oak scored two late goals taking the score line to 2-1 against Kotoko. Then Kotoko scored a very late goal
The CAF Champions League is Africa’s most prestigious club competition. It is organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) every season. The competition was found in 1964 under the name African Cup of Champions Clubs.
