Awesome Soccer, led by owner Brian Perez, is proud to announce the redesign and relaunch of TheCup.us, one of the leading soccer news websites in the U.S.
“When I was looking for someone to redesign TheCup.us, a mutual friend put me in touch with Brian and assured me that the only thing bigger than his talent as a website designer was his passion for American soccer,” TheCup.us founder Josh Hakala stated.
Since 2003, TheCup.us is the only media outlet that provides full coverage of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
“We’re very excited about the redesign,” Hakala added. “TheCup.us 2.0 has been in the works for a long time and we’re thrilled to continue to help fans, teams and media members follow and cover this great tournament just in time for the 102nd edition of the competition. There is so much more to come with this site and I look forward to continuing to improve it as the tournament progresses.”
Awesome Soccer owns and operates Del Rey City S.C. (DRCSC), a professional Marina del Rey, California soccer club having 2014 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and 2014-2015 United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) teams, Los Angeles City Football Club (L.A. City FC), and Playa Vista United. Awesome Soccer is involved in a number of other soccer-related projects and investments to help grow the sport of soccer in the United States with its focus on Los Angeles’ Westside. Awesome Soccer believes and invests in American soccer.
“I couldn’t wait to start working on TheCup.us site when I was asked about it,” Perez added. “The purpose of my company, Awesome Soccer, is to provide a contribution to American soccer and helping with TheCup.us is, I think, doing just that. I have been amazed by the amount of time and effort Josh has put into the site over the years of his own volition. The amount of information he has collected on the tournament, information I know can’t be found elsewhere, is truly incredible and impressive. I genuinely enjoy working with Josh and have a lot of respect for him.”
The newest version of TheCup.us was launched to coincide with the first round of the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, which consists of 21 matches.
The readership and following of TheCup.us has grown steadily from year to year thanks to Hakala’s leadership. Hakala is a well-known broadcaster, journalist, and website manager who, in addition to creating TheCup.us, has also done freelance play by play announcing for networks such as the Big Ten Network, Turner Sports, Fox Soccer, and others. He has worked in a variety of fields including public relations, working as the communications director for the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR), and even spending a few years working for EA Sports on its FIFA video game series.
TheCup.us is in no way affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
