On Saturday, July 30th, FC Bayern Munich and FC Internazionale Milano faced off for the International Champion’s Cup at The Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The harsh summer heat did not get in the way of both team’s motivation to win, but FC Bayern Munich proved to have the upper hand, winning the game 4-1.
Bayern Munich had a strong start during the first 15 minutes of the match, with an early goal from Julian Green, who was assisted by David Alaba. The celebration was quickly followed by a second goal by Franck Ribéry, with an assist by Fabian Benko. Bayern Munich kept up their stellar performance with Julian Green’s second goal (assisted by Ribéry), putting Bayern at a 3-0 advantage over Inter Milan. Green once again came through for his team and scored his third goal of the night 36 minutes into the first half (assist by Rafinha), catapulting his team to a 4-0 advantage. The large crowd at the Bank of America Stadium cheered Green on, celebrating his impressive performance.
Approximately 43 minutes into the first half, Ribéry tried to assist Milos Pantovic with a pass, but nothing came of it. Inter Milan attempted to find a scoring opportunity in Bayern’s tight knit defense, but failed to do so. The German team proved to be stronger than their counterpart, and with a secure 4-0 advantage they were able to successfully end their first half.
The second half of the match did not have an explosive start, with Inter Milan struggling to score their first goal of the match, and Bayern fighting to keep their advantage. A corner kick for Bayern Munich during minute 74 seemed like another goal opportunity, but a quick catch by
Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic prevented a fifth goal.
As the final ten minutes of the match approached, it seemed as if neither team was able to find scoring opportunities. David Alaba of Bayern Munich tried to score during the 86th, but his shot was not well aimed and failed to reach its desired target.
Mauro Icardi of Inter Milan scored a last minute goal three minutes later, giving Inter their first goal of the match, and putting the score at 4-1. Bayern Munich ended this match with a win, and will travel to New York for their next match with Real Madrid.
Man of the Match Julian Green was excited about Bayern Munich’s big win.
“It’s very special to be here with Bayern Munich. Being able to score goals here is also very nice and I’m also very happy. It is always important for me to score; in soccer one game is not too good, but the next game is better, I scored three goals and I am very happy about it. It is very nice to see how soccer is growing here in the States, and we are looking forward to our next game.”
