The Brooklyn Italians SC has signed six Division I standouts for the 2013 NPSL season. Four hail from St. John’s University, including Daniel Harrera, Jimmy Mulligan, Tim Parker, and Rafael Diaz. The remaining two, Nathaniel Bekoe and Ryan Cupolo, play for Fordham University.
“It’s simple: recruit, plan, and execute,” Italians Head Coach Lucio Russo added. “With the addition of these individuals, we will definitely make a run for the championship and make some noise in the US Open Cup.”
Daniel Harrera, a midfielder from Massapequa Park (NY), tallied two goals and an assist in 18 appearances for the Red Storm in 2012.
Midfielder Jimmy Mulligan, a native of Medford (NY), started 19 games and played nearly 1,500 minutes during the 2012 season. He also collected two goals and an assist in the process.
Defender Tim Parker started 19 games on the St. John’s backline in 2012, tallying one goal and one assist in 1,790 minute played.
Rockaway (NJ) native Rafael Diaz was the only goalkeeper that St. John’s needed in 2012. Diaz was a star in goal, finishing with 58 saves and 8 shutouts.
Nathaniel Bekoe, a native of Ghana, is yet another exciting player that will suit up for the Italians. He was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List in 2012 thanks to 35 career starts and 5 career assists.
Astoria (NY) native Ryan Cupolo made one start during his freshman season in 2012, playing against Rutgers on August 24th. He is expected to compete for a starting position on the Rams’ backline in the fall.
“We have added some quality players from winning programs like St. John’s
University and Fordham University,” Italians Vice President Joe Barone commented. “This group will further compliment the existing player pool that we currently have. The NPSL is attracting quality players from all around the country. I feel this group will have players that will move up to play professionally and make a living from the game.”
