The Columbus Crew (4-5-4, 16 points) fell 3-2 on the road to Toronto FC at BMO Field on Saturday night (5-4-1, 16 points) after Doneil Henry scored late in stoppage time to give the home side the victory.
“I think that we put ourselves in a position to get a result tonight and we didn’t do it,” Columbus Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter stated. “At the end of the day it’s disappointing.”
The Crew took the lead in the 18th minute through Justin Meram but Jermain Defoe equalized from the spot for Toronto FC three minutes later. In the 65th, Agustin Viana broke the deadlock for the Crew with his first MLS goal but Defoe struck again in the 81st before Henry won it in the 92nd for the Reds. With the victory, Toronto secures the 2014 Trillium Cup, presented by Scotts.
The Crew returns home to face Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, June 4 (7:30 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
