The Dayton Dutch Lions FC is pleased to announce its first three player signings for the upcoming Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) season. All three currently play their college soccer locally at the University of Dayton. Flyers signing for this summer are forward Meghan Blank, forward Alexis Kiehl and midfielder/defender Kaitlynn Kiehl.
“It’s always great to have local players as the core of the team and I’m excited to return these three ladies for the summer,” head coach Ian Richardson commented. “Meghan and Alexis will be a handful up top for our opponents. The scoring ability, speed, and quickness they bring to the pitch will give us a good foundation to excel in this league. Kaitlynn is a skillful player who simplifies the game, has an outstanding touch, and brings added versatility to the team as she can play in several positions.”
Blank is returning to the Dutch Lions for her third season and will be a veteran with the squad. She had a strong fall season for the Flyers, starting all 19 matches she played in. She is now looking to build off of that success.
“I cannot wait to get started and lend my experience to the team. I have worked with Coach Richardson in the past and believe we have the opportunity to advance in the playoffs. Expect good things from our squad.”
Alexis Kiehl started 42 games for the University of Dayton over the past two seasons. She is equally enthused to be involved with the Dutch Lions, a team that has sent players to the pro ranks on a regular basis.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to play in a new environment with DDL and learn from new coaches and teammates. I look forward to competing in one of the most competitive amateur league in North America.”
Teammate and sister Kaitlynn Kiehl appeared in 24 games during her career with the Flyers. She is also looking forward to the opportunity of playing for a world-class organization.
“I love soccer and I want to continue to challenge myself to improve every day. I believe playing with DDLFC will be a great step to achieve my goals.”
This will be the Lions’ first season in the WPSL, a national league with over 100 teams. The league has produced some of the world’s best talent including Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Abby Wambach, Brandi Chastain, and Julie Foudy to name a few.
The women’s home opener is May 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at DOC Stadium on the campus of West Carrollton High School.
