The match, which will take place on Saturday, May 28, will be FC United of Manchester’s first match in the United States.

“FC United of Manchester is globally changing the conversation on how sports teams are run. It is a privilege to host them as Detroit City FC embarks on a historic campaign to redefine how a growing American sports team embraces community, history, and investment,“ DCFC co-owner Sean Mann said.

“It’s great to be playing a club with similar community spirit to our own and we are looking forward to working with Detroit City and helping them develop a different ownership model in the USA. We really appreciate the invitation for what we are sure will be an amazing trip,” FC United board member Alison Watt said.

In early 2015, FC United opened its supporter-funded stadium, Broadhurst Park, by raising more than $3 million from 1,500 individuals through its own community shares plan.

In September 2015, the Hamtramck School Board approved a lease with Detroit City FC that would see the club fund renovation work at Keyworth Stadium, with the intention that the 79-year-old structure become the team’s home field for the 2016 season and beyond. The renovation of the stadium will be financed in part through Michigan’s largest community investment campaign to date. The campaign will kick-off with a celebration at the Fowling Warehouse on Thursday, October 29 at 7 p.m.

All individuals who participate in the investment campaign will receive a ticket for the May 28th match against FC United of Manchester, and will get the first opportunity to order additional tickets. Remaining tickets will open first to season ticket holders, and then to the general public in January of 2016.
