San Diego Boca FC today announced that the club has re-signed 2012 goalkeeper Grant Essig to a new one-year contract for the upcoming 2013 NPSL season. Essig is a graduate of Ayala High School in Chino, California. Grant was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection while attending Mesa College in San Diego.
“We are very excited to re-sign Grant Essig to a one-year contract as Grant is a very solid goalkeeper who knows how to dominate the box,” CEO/President Yan Skwara commented. “Gant has very good size at 6’2″and also has cat-ike reactions and knows how to keep the ball out of the net. Grant was part of last year’s squad, but never tended net due to electing to take a leave of absence from the team for personal reasons. I think he now knows what opportunity he is being given and he will take advantage of matters this time round. I know that with a solid defense in front of Grant and with his goalkeeping capabilities, we can have a stout goals against ratio versus what we did last year.”
“I am excited to be given the opportunity to tend goal for Boca as it’s a big responsibility that I will gladly take on,” Essig stated. “I think we have signed some real solid players for the upcoming season and this could be a year that we could go far. I look forward to training camp and getting my hands dirty to kick off the season.”
“Grant has a lot to prove but at the same time I know that he has the skills required to be a top goalkeeper,” Head Coach Dr. Karim Ben Mazouk concluded. “I am very excited we have Grant in the mix and look for a big year from him in goal.”
