FC Bayern Munich and Club América held simultaneous joint watch parties in Miami and Mexico City yesterday for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Germany v Mexico fixture.
The top-flight teams, which are the most successful sides in their respective countries, hosted one viewing party at the home of Club América, Estadio Azteca, Mexico City and another at Fritz & Franz Bierhaus in Miami, bringing together fans of the most followed clubs in Germany and Mexico.
“This is the first time two historic international clubs have come together to host joint viewing parties in two countries.” commented FC Bayern Munich’s President of the Americas, Rudolf Vidal. “Mexico is home to FC Bayern’s largest fan club outside of Europe and the team will play a fixture in Miami on July 28, so these locations were perfect to do something special with our fans in the Americas in collaboration with Mexico’s most renowned side,” he added.
“These watch parties are a great opportunity to unite our whole fanbase in support of our players at the World Cup” said Club América’s President Mauricio Culebro. “We are providing an exciting way to unite our fans in Mexico with our fans in the United States, and it’s an honor to do so with a fellow world-class club like FC Bayern.”
FC Bayern have a strong history of heavy representation in the German national team. Germany’s World Cup winning team in 1974 featured seven FC Bayern players, followed by six in the 1990 World Cup win and back to seven players in the 2014 victory.
Currently, the Bavarian side have eight players who regularly feature on the German national team.
Club América have 15 players on roster with international appearances including current Mexican National Team members Oribe Peralta and Edson Álvarez, and Colombia’s Mateus Uribe.
Added to that, Mexican National Team regulars Guillermo Ochoa, Raúl Jiménez and Diego Reyes have come through Club America’s ranks from youth teams to the first team on their way to playing in Europe and featuring for El Tri at the World Cup. The club’s stadium and the location of the Mexico City watch party, Estadio Azteca, is also home to El Tri.
