FC Bayern Munich today teamed up with Feeding South Florida, a charity based in the Sunshine State for the very first ‘FC Bayern day of service’, which saw club representatives help the charity kick-off their annual summer volunteer drive.

Club mascot Berni the bear joined FC Bayern Munich staff and supporters’ club members to form part of a group who sorted through 9,626 pounds of food, which will provide 8,021 meals to benefit needy families in the South Florida area.

Club representatives were in town ahead of the German champions’ U.S. tour, which will see them play English champions Manchester City at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on July 28 as part of the International Champions Cup.

“At FC Bayern, we don’t believe in coming in for a game and leaving,”  said FC Bayern Munich’s President of the Americas, Rudolf Vidal. “We want to be within the community beyond match day, which is why we have created the FC Bayern day of service.”

“Feeding South Florida do fantastic work, so it is an honor for us to bring our supporters’ club members together with our staff to volunteer today,” he added. “The FC Bayern family is committed to making a positive difference to the cities we visit.”

“We are excited to have FC Bayern join us for their Community Day,” said Paco Vélez, President and CEO of Feeding South Florida. “It’s so encouraging to see club members take time out of their schedules to help in our quest to end hunger in South Florida.”

“I am passionate about my club, and also about giving back to my community,” FC Bayern Miami Supporters’ Club Chairman Michael Morton said. “FC Bayern’s day of service is an amazing opportunity and such a worthy activity to be a part of. It’s great to see the club I love getting active in my community and helping young children and their families.”

July will see the club roll out a number of activations and initiatives throughout Miami and its surrounding areas ahead of the team’s arrival on July 26. For further information, please see fcbayern.com.
