The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the first and only men’s league designated by USASA as a Tier 1 national league, is proud to announce that FC Florida has joined the league. The club will begin play in the 2025 season.
“We are thrilled to welcome FC Florida into the NPSL family,” NPSL Managing Director Cindy Spera said. “FC Florida is a leader in player development, and we know that the NPSL platform will be a welcome addition to their club structure. We are looking forward to seeing this club thrive in our league, both on and off the field.”
The club is led by founder and owner John Textor, academy director Cam Omsberg, and director of coaching Cesar Montes.
Textor founded FC Florida in 2008 to provide a collegiate and professional pathway for South Florida-based players. Textor is the majority shareholder of Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas, which competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. He is also a co-owner and the largest individual shareholder of Crystal Palace Football Club in England’s Premier League. He also holds a majority stake in Belgian First Division B side RWD Molenbeek and most recently, he became the majority shareholder of Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais.
Omsberg joined FC Florida Prep after spending over ten years coaching college soccer. Most recently, he was the first assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with UConn’s men’s soccer program. Previously, he was the first assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northeastern University for six years and Bates College for three years.
“FC Florida has a long and successful history of preparing youth players for the college and professional levels,” Omsberg said. “Since FC Florida was founded in 2008, we have seen over 165 student-athletes earn soccer scholarships at the collegiate level and have sent 13 players to the professional level including national team players and players signing with clubs in the top leagues in the world like the English Premier League. We are excited to provide our academy alumni who are currently in college with a platform to continue to represent FC Florida while playing at a high level. Our recent college graduates planning to pursue a career at the professional level will also benefit from a platform like NPSL to prove themselves to professional coaches and scouts.”
Montes brings over 20 years of club coaching experience in Florida to the staff. He previously coached under Joseph Schultz with Boca Juniors/Schultz Academy. With FC Florida Prep, he has coached players that went on to sign professionally with clubs, including Botafogo and Crystal Palace. He also coached players that played collegiately at programs including Harvard, Georgetown, University of Pennsylvania, Wesleyan, Northeastern, and FAU. He led the FC Florida Prep 1998/1999 boys’ team to a GotSoccer #1 National Ranking and championships at major tournaments, including the Dallas Cup and Surf Cup.
Home matches will take place at The Pine School in Hobe Sound, FL.
