FC Indiana and ASA Chesapeake Charge played to a 1-1 draw in Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Elite League action on Friday night, June 8.
Charge’s Erica Suter scored with 15 minutes to go to deny Indiana their first victory. Neither team saw many chances over the course of the match, with both defenses keeping the ball clear of the goal. Finally in the 30th minute Indiana’s Soline Bellevue found the key and hammered home a goal to give Indiana the lead. It was the team’s first score since their 4-1 loss against Boston in May.
Unfortunately the lead would not last. In the 75th minute Suter broke through the Indiana defense on a Chesapeake attack. The forward nodded home an equalizer past FC Indiana keeper Geralda Santilus to give Albert Oni’s side the tie and a point they deserved.
The result ended a run of five successive WPSL Elite losses for Shek Borkowski’s team and the team’s first point in the standings, but due credit must be given to Chesapeake who were diligent throughout.
“This was two points dropped by us and, in that sense, certainly a blow. However, it might well have been worse and, by gaining out first point, hopefully it will give us upward momentum,” said Borkowski.
FC Indiana host New York Fury on Sunday, 7:00PM kickoff. Chesapeake Charge will continue their Midwest sweep by visiting Chicago Red Stars, also on Sunday.
