FC Indiana has finally begun to show the results of their hard work under head coach Shek Borkowski, earning a second straight undefeated result in Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Elite League action.
Manouchka Pierre-Louis set up 2 goals, the first in 17th minute by Nadia Valentine and second in 20th minute by Sophia Batard as FC Indiana drew 2-2 with ASA Chesapeake Charge Sunday afternoon in Baltimore.
The tie moves FC Indiana (1-7-2) to sixth place in the WPSL Elite, ahead of Charge (1-7-2) on goal differential. FC Indiana had earned their first win of the season on Friday against Philadelphia Fever. Pierre-Louis scored the lone goal in the 1-0 victory. Electing to defend deep and counterattack against the Charge, FC Indiana created a number of opportunities in the game, but poor finishing and strong goalkeeping by Chesapeake’s Lyndse Hokanson kept FC Indiana to a pair of goals. Still, that looked to be enough, until the very end.
In the 86th minute a mishandled shot by the Charge’s Riley Barger cut the lead to 2-1. It was a goal out of nothing, as despite their possession the Charge created few scoring opportunities.
Because of a number of injuries during the match, a total of 12 additional minutes were added on at the end of the second half. That would make a huge difference for the host team. In the 98th minute, Chesapeake’s Christine Nairn took a free kick from 23 yards out and curled it in to make the final score 2-2 and earn each side a single point.
FC Indiana will return to action on Thursday, July 5, when they host the Fever in a rematch. Charge will play two games on the road this next weekend, taking on Boston Breakers on Friday, July 6, and Western New York Flash on Sunday, July 8.
