Football Manager 2020 (Review)

Football Manager 2020 (Review)

Football is often called the beautiful game.  But Football Manager 2020 is literally a beautiful game, a sight to behold and a whole lot of fun to play.

You can start as your favorite team in the top flight or you can work your way up from the bottom.  We prefer the latter; working your way up from the lower leagues to the first division is super rewarding.  We’re underway with Brechin City Football Club in Scotland’s League Two and hope to play our beloved Celtic sooner rather than later.

The best part of FM is its infinite replayability, meaning you won’t get bored any time soon.  It’s a guarantee that you’ll be thoroughly entertained until FM 2021 comes out.

FM 2019 was one of our favorite games of all-time, yet this year’s edition somehow manages to feel fresh and clean.  It is like trying to improve upon perfection, but Sports Interactive has done just that.  They’ve made an incredible game better, losing nothing in the process and gaining ground in quite a few areas.

Visually the game looks better than ever.  The menus are crisp and easy to use; the actual matches are quite appealing aesthetically.  They have come a long way in this department since the early days.  There’s plenty of depth when it comes to modes.  Career, Fantasy Draft, Online Career, and Create-A-Club give you plenty to work with.

There are so many great parts to this game.  Press conferences continue to be fun and thought-provoking at the same time.  Developing players and finding your next megastar is always entertaining.  And finding the perfect tactics and roster are just as great.  You’ll find countless ways to have fun and it can be as hands-on (or hands-off) as you want.  You can have your subordinates take on important tasks or you can literally do everything yourself.  It’s a game that’s made for both the power-hungry hardcore gamer and those who want to casually explore the FM lifestyle.

Playing Football Manager is truly a lifestyle.  You’ll see that in the numerous articles about the series or the two books or the documentary.  It’s more than a game and that’s the direct result of the SEGA and SI employees that are passionate about their work.  They’re constantly raising the bar for football games and the end result is the best game we have ever played.

Most of us don’t have the cash on hand to buy our favorite team, but this is clearly the next best thing.  Buying FM will be the best money you have ever spent.  I think some of the game’s most notorious owners (think Craig Whyte, Mike Ashley, or the Glazers) should have given FM a spin before dropping millions and millions, but that’s just us.

Enjoy!
