The Vaqueros’ 2016 NPSL South Central Conference season came to an end on Saturday in Tulsa.
The Vaqueros fell 6-0 to the new conference champions in Oklahoma to close out league play.
The Athletics (11-1, 33 points in NPSL) claimed the South Central Conference title in three of the past four years.
“We fought as hard as we could, but when you are not at full strength it is very difficult to compete with the number one team in the conference,” Vaqueros coach Mark Snell said.
Tulsa took an early lead with a 10th minute goal from Jake Schmoker, the Athletics’ captain. Schmoker assisted on the Athletics goal in the 35th minute to Dave Leung, who earned a brace with his second goal in the 46th minute.
The Vaqueros (1-10-1, 4 points in NPSL; 1-11-2 overall) have four matches remaining in 2016, including three exhibition home games in July. Fort Worth returns to action quickly with a July 4th international friendly against Mexico’s Santos Laguna U-20 side.
The 2016 season continues with the Trinity River Cup series against Dallas City and ends on July 30 with a final exhibition against the Oklahoma City Energy U-23 squad.
