Four Zips Named To TDS Team Of The Season

Editor December 6, 2012

Zips senior Scott Caldwell was one of four University of Akron men’s soccer players to receive postseason accolades when Top Drawer Soccer announced its Team of the Season Thursday.

Caldwell, the 2012 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, garnered First Team honors while teammates Chad Barson and Wil Trapp were named to the Second Team. First-year standout Dillon Serna was recognized on the All-Freshman Team.

Individual honors have been abundant for Zips’ players once again this year following one of the program’s most successful seasons.

Caldwell, who is a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy and one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, and Barson were two of four Akron players recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team while Serna, the MAC’s co-Newcomer of the Year, was recognized on the All-Freshman Team by College Soccer News. Barson, Caldwell, Serna and Trapp were All-Mid-American Conference First Team honorees in 2012.

The Zips went 18-1-3 this fall and advanced to the NCAA’s Round of 16 for the fifth consecutive season. Along the way, UA captured its eighth-straight MAC regular season championship and its fifth MAC Tournament title in the last six years.
