The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that Greenville Football Club (Greenville, SC) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the South Region’s Southeast Conference.
“We are thrilled to see Greenville FC joining the NPSL family,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “They are a wonderful addition to one of our country’s most competitive conferences. Soccer fans in South Carolina should be very excited about GVL FC.”
The ownership group of Greenville FC is led by Marco Carrizales, Richard Carrizales II, and Richard Carrizales Sr.
Marco Carrizales is the President/CEO and Majority Owner of Greenville FC. Selected as the 84th pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas, Marco left the team after completing preseason having decided it was time to take a different path, while still continuing to give back to the sport that gave him so much. Marco, a native of Dallas, Texas has returned to Greenville after playing his collegiate career at Furman University to build something for the community: Greenville Football Club. Having been part of a number of professional, collegiate, and premier youth academies around the country as well as studied under some of the most influential management and ownership groups in U.S. soccer today, Marco is prepared and ready to make a statement with Greenville FC.
“As a first-year club, Greenville FC’s expectations both on and off the field are very high, but we remain realistic and will stop at nothing to build a club that is competitive, sustainable and representative of the entire Greenville and Upstate community,” Marco Carrizales added. “We want to build a team the city and region are proud to call their own.”
Richard Carrizales II joins his brother Marco as the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Owner of Greenville FC, having spent his last eight years working in business development, sports marketing, and entertainment. Richard brings a myriad of industry knowledge and skills to the ownership group that has proven beneficial in building Greenville Football Club from the ground up.
Richard Carrizales Sr. joins his sons Richard and Marco, as the third Co-Owner of Greenville FC and will also serve as General Counsel to the club. As an ex-collegiate DI soccer player for North Texas and an attorney for over 30 years, Richard Sr. will play an integral role in providing the overall vision and direction for the club.
“Greenville FC aims to become a staple organization in the U.S. soccer ecosystem and the NPSL,” Marco Carrizales continued. “Through our unique business model, we will provide a solid foundation for local elite talent to grow and develop within a professionally managed environment, as well as, use the club as a vehicle to promote the sport of soccer in communities across the country and world. With the success that our neighbors Asheville City SC and Chattanooga FC have had, we know that the Southeast Conference is set to be very strong. With some already brewing rivalries, we are confident that we have the elite talent right here in the Greenville area that will make us strong competition from the first kick.”

“Greenville FC applied to join the NPSL because we want to bring something new to the Greenville community, and show the national soccer landscape that there is a place for local professional clubs to grow from the ground up and succeed in this country,” Marco Carrizales concluded. “The Greenville soccer community has been deserving of a team for some time, and with the NPSL’s governance and team-run operating structure, this allows us the right platform in order to build a unique club, and has the ability to scale with us as we grow with the active Greenville community.”
