I Think Therefore I Play (Review)

Editor October 28, 2015

Everyone knows Andrea Pirlo.  He is one Italy’s greatest footballers and one of the big stars of today’s MLS.  He has a had a tremendous career, going from a promising youngster to one of the most accomplished and coveted players in all of the world.  The story, I Think Therefore I Play, is written by Pirlo with the help of Alessandro Alciato.

This is a defining book, one that is actually worthy of such a great player.  It shows the depth of Pirlo the player and Pirlo the person. Likely one of the most intellectual players to ever touch this game, Pirlo takes readers on an incredible journey to Brescia, Inter, Reggina, AC Milan, and Juventus.  Not to mention all of his stories that surround his incredible ride with the Italian national team.

Pirlo gives us his full philosophy on life and playing.  We have to admit we were quite impressed with everything he said.  There is no question that he is the brightest and most insightful footballer every time he steps on the pitch.

Think of employing Einstein as your midfielder or Pirlo as a philosopher on the pitch.   It’s essentially the same thing.

This has to be one of the best soccer autobiographies we have ever read.  It is enjoyable from start to finish.  He talks about, well, just about everything.  His stories about teammates, important matches, contract negotiations, and winning major titles are absolutely priceless.  We learned a lot from this one, something you always look for when reading a book.

Our favorite story was about Pirlo’s preparation for the 2006 World Cup.  He spent much of the day sleeping and playing PlayStation.  That very same night he helped win the World Cup for Italy.  Absolutely amazing stuff.

If you want to learn about the best and what it takes to be the best, start by reading this title.  It’s a must have for fans of Italian soccer, especially those that have followed him to MLS.

I was actually quite surprised he came to America after reading this book; he had so many other opportunities. We’re just lucky to have him here now.  Fans should really enjoy seeing one of the all-time greats play on American soil. Pick up your copy of this book on your way to the stadium; you won’t regret it.
