Impressive Win for Crew SC

Goals from Federico Higuain, Justin Meram, and Kei Kamara gave Columbus Crew SC a 3-0 win over Orlando City SC in their first-ever meeting.

“We are extremely excited, but obviously, there is still a lot of work to be done,” Crew SC midfielder Ethan Finlay added. “Fortunately for us, some of the results in MLS went our way tonight and that is kind of what we need to get to the top of the table that much quicker. We’re just focused on the next task and that’s Philly next weekend.”

Everything seemed to go right for Columbus with everything seeming to go wrong for Orlando City thanks to a Rafael Ramos red card in the 34th minute.  Red cards always derail a team’s effort, but it was especially dreadful here with the Columbus attack clicking on all cylinders.

It was a great night for fans and supporters who saw Crew SC come away with a win and at the same time got to see a star-studded OCSC side that included Brek Shea, Donovan Ricketts, and of course Kaká.

Federico Higuain’s goal was the 28th of his MLS and Crew SC career, tying him with Dante Washington for seventh on the club’s all-time list, while Kamara’s goal was his fourth of the season, which leads the Black & Gold.  The offseason acquisition of Kamara has proven to be a very valuable one along with the continued development of youngsters like Meram and Finlay.

The win was only the second in the young season for Columbus, who improved to 2-2-2, while Orlando lost their first road match of the season to drop to 2-3-2.
