The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that Kitsap Soccer Club (Bremerton, WA) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the West Region’s Northwest Conference.
“We enthusiastically welcome Kitsap Soccer Club to the National Premier Soccer League,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “We look forward to their contributions in the Northwest as we continue to grow and support the sport in this region.”
Kitsap Soccer Club is led by owner Robin Waite, head coach Cameron MacDonald, assistant coach Shaun Scobie, performance analyst Keith Sargent, and goalkeeper coach Liviu Bird. Waite is a life-long soccer fan, a former co-owner of the USL Seattle Sounders, and is widely known for his expertise in stadium development and construction with a background in commercial real estate. He is a firm believer is promoting the Kitsap Peninsula and strongly supports the community in which he lives.
MacDonald had an impressive professional playing career in both the United Kingdom and United States, boasting an impressive trophy collection. He was an assistant coach with the Kitsap Pumas during their 2014 PDL National Championship run and led the club to its first undefeated season in 2015 as head coach.
Scobie is a highly-rated coach who joined the club in 2015 after heading up the prestigious Livingston FC professional academy in the United Kingdom. He helped produce over 25 players for the first team and also led the Scottish branch of Coerver Coaching.
Sargent, a Kitsap native, was one of the first coaches to earn the Master’s Degree in Soccer Coaching from Ohio University. He has experience coaching at the collegiate level and is considered to be an expert statistician. Bird, a former Kitsap Pumas goalkeeper, is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University. He is an established goalkeeper coach who has coached at the youth and collegiate levels.
“We were a franchise of the PDL for eight years, and we had some good success there,” Waite added. “We would like to thank the PDL for providing us the platform to develop our club and brand, but we feel that at this point, membership in the NPSL is the best possible direction for the future success of our team.”
Kitsap SC plays its home matches at Gordon Field, an intimate 1,500-capacity stadium on the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton, Washington, a one-hour ferry ride west of Seattle on the Olympic Peninsula. In the club’s eight-year history, Kitsap won the PDL National Championship in 2011 and advanced to the national final again in 2014. It has qualified for the U.S. Open Cup six times (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016), advancing to the fourth round in 2016.
“We bring a strong and stable club to the league,” Waite concluded. “Our objective is to bring a high level of competition to the Northwest Conference. We hope to be a catalyst for the advancement of the league. We hope to be able to continue our U.S. Open Cup success.”
